So far, you’ve been thinking of college as of a dream destination which will offer you a ticket into a successful life. You’ve heard all these things about tuition fees, campus life, burning the midnight oil, but you still want to get there. 
I was just like you a year ago. And although I still find college experience exciting, there’s a couple of things I wish someone explained to me before. Of course, the bottom line of going to school is studying, but college is definitely not all about classes.

  • Coffee saves your life. Before college, I never really liked this drink. However, when you stay up late and spend endless hours cramming in a library, coffee works miracles. It is easy to become addicted to it, so now I try to limit myself. Besides, it is really tasty, so you can think of it as of a reward for being industrious and self-disciplined.
  • Failing is OK. Seriously, everyone fails. Often. So don’t let mishaps hinder you from achieving your big dream.
  • A well-prepared plan will help. I always thought organizing things and drawing up agendas was for businessmen, but, really, this can save you a lot of time. Additionally, you won’t forget important things and will never miss deadlines.
  • The only person estimating you is yourself. Being a perfectionist is challenging. Maybe sometimes it is useful not to be so hard on yourself?
  • Have some food at hand. In the process of learning, you will often forget to have a proper meal. However, hunger will distract you and make you easily annoyed. So make sure you have something to eat whenever you start studying.

  • You deserve some rest. Weekends were invented to give your organism some rest and fun. If you ignore them, you will soon feel dead tired and incapable of studying well.
  • Better spend some time with friends. Studying is important, but do not forget that you have to actually live your life. If you dedicate all your time to studying, you’ll regret it.
  • It’s all about your way of thinking. How you see things means a lot. Whenever you feel upset, try to change your perspective and force yourself to be more positive.
  • Stress poisons your life. In college, stress becomes your closest companion. After coffee, of course. Develop your own techniques of dealing with stress.
  • All you need is a good sleep. If you feel stressed and tired, and nothing helps, just have a good sleep. Life will feel better when you wake up, I promise.

These are little things I’ve discovered so far. Now that you know what to expect, you may start designing your own ways of dealing with them so that nothing distracts you from reaching your goal!
